Wolf Mendl
Wolfgang "Wolf" Marco Louis Mendl (born May 1, 1926 in Berlin ; † November 29, 1999 in London ) was a British military sociologist of German origin.
Life
Mendl came from a German-Jewish family. Because of his origins, he emigrated to London after the Nazis came to power . He did not visit Berlin again until 1951.
In England he turned to Quakerism . He studied at Gonville and Caius College at the University of Cambridge . After a short time as a history teacher (1950-1953) at the Wennington School, he studied at Swarthmore College of Quaker in Pennsylvania. He dealt with the peace witness (Peace Testimony) and worked from 1953 to 1961 active for Quaker. So he organized u. a. Seminars with the American Friends Service Committee in Japan. He was also considered a supporter of Charles de Gaulle .
He received a PhD from the Department of War Studies at King's College London . From 1978 to 1982 he was head of the department.
Mendl was married and the father of three children.
