Bernard Robert August Borggreve

Bernard Robert August Borggreve (also: Bernhard Borggreve ; * July 6, 1836 in Magdeburg ; † April 5, 1914 in Bendorf ) was a German forest scientist , zoologist and botanist .

Life

Bernard Borggreve studied at the Eberswalde Forest Academy , then also forest science at the University of Greifswald and the University of Bonn . In 1864 he became head of the forest administration of the Hohenlohe family in Silesia . From 1866 he was a lecturer at the Agricultural Academy in Bonn-Poppelsdorf.

With the founding of the Royal Prussian Academy of Forestry Hannoversch Munden by William I , he received a reputation as a professor of zoology, particularly ornithology and entomology , the new Forest Academy in Hannoversch Munden . The subject area included "the entire field of botany and zoology, in general natural history as an auxiliary science". Since Borggreve wanted to deal not only with zoology, but also with forest botany, he was temporarily active as a chief forester and returned in 1879 as professor for zoology and botany at the forest academy Hann. Münden and even became its director. Borggreve retired in 1891 and was chief forester in Wiesbaden until his retirement in 1905.

Borggreve became internationally known for his research on plenter thinning . He was initially co-editor and later editor of the Forstlichen Blätter . In the Berlin district of Reinickendorf was Borggreve street named after him.
