Bernd-Jürgen Hamann

Bernd-Jürgen Hamann (born July 26, 1942 ; † June 9, 2004 in Berlin ) was a Protestant pastor who became known nationwide for his motorcycle services and rock fairs.

Life

Hamann studied Protestant theology in Berlin and Heidelberg in the 1960s. In the 1970s he organized the first motorcycle church services .

In 1983 he moved to the Evangelical Luisengemeinde at Gierkeplatz in Berlin as a youth pastor. The rock masses that he made famous were also held there, in which Christian rock bands provided musical accompaniment for the services. Hamann invited politicians, scientists and other celebrities as lay preachers to church services. Well-known personalities such as Franz Müntefering , Regine Hildebrandt , Eberhard Diepgen and Jürgen Fliege were guests at the so-called focus worship services .

In 1991 he was a co-founder of the umbrella association of Christian motorcycle groups in Germany, the GCM, and its honorary chairman.

In 1996 he caused a stir when he organized the first Protestant techno fair. In the same year he drove with the young community in his own car under the motto "Rave 4 Christ" at the Berlin Love Parade . In 1999 he organized the first "space fair" for fans of the cult series and the cult films Star Trek and Star Wars .

Bernd-Jürgen Hamann died of a heart attack while driving, which resulted in a car accident in which no other people were injured.
