Bernd Dobermann (born August 9, 1944 in Leipzig ) was a football player who completed 84 games in the GDR Oberliga for Chemie Leipzig and forward Frankfurt . He was used twice in the GDR national soccer team .

Athletic career

Of the many stations in Bernd Dobermann's football career, the BSG Medicine Leipzig stood at the beginning. There he received his first training as a football player before he moved to the upper division SC Lokomotive Leipzig in 1962 at the age of 18 . There he played for a year with the juniors and in the reserve team. Dobermann then registered with the BSG Lok Ost Leipzig , with whom he played in the third-class Leipzig district league from 1963 to 1966 . The BSG activist Böhlen was Dobermann's next station, where he was in the squad of the GDR league promoter in the 1966/67 season. After the descent of the Böhlener Dobermann went back to Leipzig, where he rejoined his previous team, which had meanwhile changed from SC Lok to BSG Chemie. At the age of 23 he finally broke the knot, already in the first season he fought for a regular place in the league team as a defender.

In the following years he improved his form in such a way that GDR national coach Harald Seeger noticed him. In 1969, Seeger was looking for alternatives to his team on the way to qualifying for the 1970 World Cup and put the almost 25-year-old Doberman in preparation for the decisive qualifying games against Wales and Italy on July 9, 1969 in the international match against Egypt. In the 7-0 win, he played on his regular position as a right defender. Even after missing the World Cup qualification, Seeger tried again with Dobermann in his last game as national coach on December 19, 1969 against Egypt. After Georg Buschner took over the national team, Dobermann was no longer considered.

In November 1970 Dobermann's career in the league was interrupted when he was drafted into the army. He was drafted to Cottbus, but was able to continue playing football with the local army sports community Vorwärts in the GDR league. He obviously did this with great success, because at the beginning of the football season 1971/72 Dobermann was delegated to the central army club FC Vorwärts Frankfurt / Oder . He stayed there until the end of the 1972/73 season and completed 21 league games during this time.

After his discharge from the army, Dobermann returned to Leipzig. Meanwhile 29 years old there was no going back to the league, he joined the BSG rotation in 1950 in Leipzig , which had just been promoted to the GDR league. But since the team was relegated again after a year, Dobermann spent the rest of his football career in the third-class Leipzig district league. In 1978 Dobermann finally ended his active career. For a few years he was still active as a trainer, for example with the offspring of Chemie Leipzig and with the lower-class Leipzig teams Stahl Südwest and SV 1910.
