Bernd Dorendorf (born April 14, 1953 ; † April 11, 2007 ) was a football goalkeeper in the GDR Oberliga , the top division of the GDR Football Association, and played there for 1. FC Magdeburg .

Athletic career

Dorendorf came to 1. FC Magdeburg in 1971 at the age of 18, when he had just finished his apprenticeship. This was followed by studying to become a teacher of German and Russian. In Magdeburg he initially guarded the goal of the 2nd team in the second-rate GDR league . Dorendorf played his first game with the league team on October 4, 1975 in a cup game at BSG Kernkraftwerk Greifswald (1-0 victory). For the first time in the league, Dorendorf guarded the FCM goal on November 8, 1975 in the game against Wismut Aue (6-0). He had to replace the injured goalkeeper Ulrich Schulze and came in this way during the 1975/76 season on a total of twelve missions. During his time in Magdeburg, interrupted by a year and a half military service between 1979 and 1981, the 1.82 m tall Dorendorf was only number 1 in the league team's goal in the 1976/77 season with 16 league appearances. Before that he had to take a back seat to Ulrich Schulze, and after his departure Dirk Heyne , who was four years younger than him, became the goalkeeper. Dorendorf played three seasons in the league team between 1975 and 1981, most recently on May 30, 1981 in the last game of the season at Wismut Aue (2-1 defeat). He came to a total of 31 league games, plus seven national and international cup games. In the victorious GDR Cup finals in 1978 and 1979, Dorendorf was only a substitute goalkeeper. He was also on the bench when he won the European Cup Winners' Cup in 1974 , flown in at the last moment for the sick substitute goalkeeper Hans-Werner Heine . In addition to the international cup games of 1. FC Magdeburg, Dorendorf also played three international matches with the youth national team and one game with the B national team.

In the summer of 1982 Dorendorf moved to the GDR league club Lok Stendal , where his former teammate Jörg Ohm worked as a coach. At the end of the season, Stendal had to relegate, so Dorendorf had to spend the rest of his football career in the third-rate district league . After completing his competitive football career, he was still active in the traditional team of 1. FC Magdeburg. Until his death he owned several different insurance agencies and offices in Magdeburg. On April 11, 2007, Bernd Werner Dorendorf succumbed to a lung disease. He left a son and a grandson.
