Content and style

Niquet regularly writes ironic and biting columns in which he exposes short-term oriented and interest-driven tendencies in business and politics. Topics covered range from the importance of education, the efficient use of taxpayers' money, sensible investments, institutional weaknesses, to the question of what is really socially just .

During the excesses of the New Market around 2000, he wrote numerous critical essays.

In his books he also advocates the thesis of the central importance of monetary theory for understanding economic processes. Early on he pointed out the dangers of fully liberalized financial markets and the modern "share culture". This theme runs through his books and eventually culminated in "The MADchester Capitalism". He used this word creation to describe the contemporary economic world. The book was published in June 2008 and describes the financial crisis from 2007 and its further effects.
