Bernd Reuters (born September 11, 1901 in Berlin ; † July 6, 1958 in Hamburg ) was a famous German graphic artist , illustrator , designer and automobile designer of his time .

Bernd Reuters is a (almost forgotten) pioneer of professional car advertising . His designs for many different car brands made him a sought-after graphic designer for the automotive industry in the first half of the 20th century . His style between Expressionism and Art Deco of the Roaring Twenties made him famous in his time. Only a few people know his work today.

Life

After a short training at the University of the Arts Berlin , he worked in 1920 as a commercial artist . Starting in 1926, the first car advertisements were made for the Brennabor -Werke and NAG from Berlin based in Brandenburg an der Havel . Soon he designed advertising and brochures for car manufacturers such as Adlerwerke , Auto Union , Graham Paige , Ford , Hansa-Automobil , Lincoln , Opel or Röhr Auto AG , for car magazines such as B. The Autocar and for advertising brochures from tire manufacturers as well as several times the cover of Echo Continental . Before the Second World War , he was one of the most important German experts in automobile advertising. His style influenced other draftsmen at home and abroad. With numerous critical reports, drawings and suggestions in Sport im Bild or Motor , he also had an influence - at least in Germany - on the body design .

Bernd Reuters died of a heart attack at the age of 56.
