Bernd Schiphorst (* 29. January 1943 in Oldenburg (Oldenburg) ) is a German media - Manager .

Schiphorst passed his Abitur at the old grammar school in Oldenburg , after which he completed an editorial traineeship at the Nordwest-Zeitung in Oldenburg from 1962 to 1964 . He played basketball at the Oldenburg TB and was temporarily head of the basketball department in the club. He later studied economics , political science and journalism at the Free University of Berlin . In 1970 he began his professional career as editor-in-chief and member of the management team at märkte & medien Verlag in Hamburg.

From 1979 he held leading positions for Bertelsmann AG for more than 20 years, initially at the Bertelsmann subsidiary Gruner + Jahr , where he was head of the board of directors and press spokesman and head of the new media department at the chairman's board. From 1984 he played a major role in the privatization of broadcasting in Germany. For eleven years he was chairman of the management board of Ufa Film- und Fernseh-GmbH in Hamburg, under whose roof Bertelsmann bundled the TV, film and radio holdings. These included u. a. the television stations RTL, RTL II , VOX and Premiere, the Ufa production companies in Berlin-Babelsberg as well as Antenne Bayern , Radio Hamburg, Klassik Radio and Radio NRW . At the same time, Schiphorst was a member of the Electronic Media Board at Bertelsmann AG. In 1988 he was able to conclude television contracts with the Bundesliga and the tennis tournament in Wimbledon. In 1993 he briefly took over the management of VOX after the station got into trouble.

With the advent of the Internet, Schiphorst became President and CEO of AOL Europe, a joint venture between America Online and Bertelsmann, in 1995. From 1996 he held the office of President and CEO of Bertelsmann New Media and was also a member of the Bertelsmann Multimedia Executive Board. From 1990 to 1999 he was a member of the plenary session of the Hamburg Chamber of Commerce and from 1993 was also chairman of the committee for media management.

In 2000 Schiphorst left Bertelsmann and took on the role of media officer for the states of Berlin and Brandenburg .

From September 2000, Schiphorst was also president of the Bundesliga soccer team Hertha BSC for eight years , and since May 2008 he has been its chairman of the supervisory board. From February 2003 to December 2010 Schiphorst was on the board of WMP Eurocom AG. From July 2004 to July 2006 he was honorary chairman of the Berlin office of the OK FIFA World Cup 2006 . He is chairman of the supervisory board of media.net Berlin-Brandenburg and chairman of the board of trustees of the Cottbus Film Festival. In June 2013 Bernd Schiphorst was elected to the supervisory board of Zeal Network SE.
