Bernd Stiegler

Bernd Stiegler (born April 29, 1964 in Meschede , Hochsauerland ) is a German literary scholar and philosopher.

Life

After attending the Benedictine high school in Meschede, Bernd Stiegler studied literature and philosophy at the universities in Tübingen, Munich, Paris, Berlin, Freiburg and Mannheim. In 1992 he received his doctorate in recent German literature from the University of Freiburg . From 1999 to 2007 he worked as program manager for science at Suhrkamp Verlag . In June 2000 he completed his habilitation at the University of Mannheim. Since autumn 2007 he has been professor for modern German literature with a focus on the 20th century in the media context at the University of Konstanz . His main research interests are the theory and history of the media, in particular photography, German and French literature of the 19th and 20th centuries, and image science issues.
