Bernd Wannenwetsch

Bernd Wannenwetsch (* 1959 ) is a German Protestant theologian .

Life

From 1979 to 1985 he studied theology and philosophy in Munich and Erlangen . From 1988 to 1993 he was pastor of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Bavaria . After receiving his doctorate in 1992 and habilitation in 1996 at the University of Erlangen-Nuremberg , he taught from 1996 to 1999 as a private lecturer in systematic theology in Erlangen. In 2000 he was professor for systematic theology at the University of Mainz . From 2000 to 2010 he was a University Lecturer, University of Oxford , Fellow of Harris Manchester College. From 2008 to 2011 he was chairman of the faculty of theology at Oxford University. From 2010 to 2011 he was Professor of Systematic Theology and Ethics at Oxford University. From 2009 to 2011 he was Dean of Chapel, Harris Manchester College, Oxford University. From 2011 to 2013 he held the Chair of Theological Ethics at Aberdeen University . From 2012 to 2013 he was President of the Society for the Study of Christian Ethics in Great Britain. Since 2016 he has been a lecturer in practical theology at STH Basel . Since 2016 he has been a guest lecturer at the Theological Seminary St. Chrischona . He has been a Research Associate at the University of Zurich since 2017 . Since 2017 he has been an honorary professor for systematic theology and ethics at the FTH Gießen .

His research interests are fundamental questions of theological ethics, sources of ethics (scripture, tradition, worship), political ethics, theology of worship and music, theology of Luther, Bonhoeffer, Hauerwas', ecclesiology, homiletics, theological exegesis (Paul), theological cultural criticism and anglophone theology.
