Bernd Wegner (born February 25, 1957 in Saarbrücken ) is a German politician ( CDU ).

education and profession

After graduating from secondary school in 1972, he completed an apprenticeship as a shoemaker until 1975. In 1985 he passed his master craftsman examination. In 1986 he became head of a specialist orthopedic company. Since 2000 he has been the managing director of Wegner GmbH (orthopedics and leather goods) in Riegelsberg.

Wegner has been President of the Saarland Chamber of Crafts since 2014 . Before that he was HWK Vice President for ten years. In April 2019, the President of the Central Association of German Crafts, Hans Peter Wollseifer, awarded Bernd Wegner the gold mark for his commitment to the craft.

He is honorary chairman of the supervisory board of Saar-Lor-Lux Umweltzentrum GmbH, a member of the state media council and a member of the foundation board of German-French cooperation.

politics

Wegner has been a member of the CDU since 1980. Since 1990 he has been deputy chairman of the CDU Riegelsberg . In 1999 he was elected deputy district chairman of the CDU Saarbrücken-Land. In 2000 he became deputy state chairman of the CDU's SME Association. From 1984 to 1989 Wegner was a member of the local council in Riegelsberg. Since 1989 he has been a member of the Riegelsberg local council.

In April 1999 he moved up to the 11th state parliament of Saarland for a few months . In the elections to the 12th state parliament , he did not succeed in direct re-entry, but he was able to move up again in September 2001 (for Gerd Bauer ). In September 2004 he won a seat in the elections for the 13th state parliament . He is a member of the European Committee, the Finance Committee and the Committee on Economics, Labor and Mine Safety.

For the 2017 federal election , Wegner ran as a CDU candidate in the Saarbrücken constituency , but was unable to prevail against Josephine Ortleb from the SPD. His 3rd place on the CDU Saar's state list was not enough for entry into the Bundestag. However, he is the first to succeed in the event that a CDU mandate holder from Saarland resigns from the Bundestag.

Personal

Bernd Wegner is a Roman Catholic . Since April 1982 he has been with Jutta Wegner geb. Bauer is married and has two children.

Sports

As a wrestler , he was Saarland national champion twenty times and has won several medals at German championships and international competitions. He is chairman of the wrestling club KV 03 Riegelsberg and since November 2011 president of the Saarland wrestling association (SRV).

Other offices

Bernd Wegner is a member of the Board of Directors of Techniker Krankenkasse and the Board of Directors of the statutory health insurance funds / umbrella association .
