Gerd Bauer (politician, 1950)

Gerd Bauer (born August 30, 1950 in Saarbrücken ) is a German politician and member of the CDU .

Life

After graduating from high school in 1968, Bauer began studying political science at Saarland University , which he graduated from in 1973. In 1973/74 he worked for the Saarland Adult Education Association. From 1974 to 1985 he worked for the Saarland State Chancellery. During this time he was in 1981 at the University of Saarland Dr. rer. pole. PhD . From 1985 to 1994 he worked as a lecturer at the University of Applied Sciences for Administration . After leaving the state parliament, he was elected director of the Saarland state media authority by the Saarland state parliament in 2001 and confirmed for another seven years in 2009. At the end of April 2016, he retired as Director of LMS.

Since 2003 he has been CEO of the cross-border media network SaarLorLux e. V. (MNS), an association of over 20 leading companies in the media sector in the greater SaarLorLux region. In December 2019 he was confirmed in this office for a further four years. The MNS projects are “Onlinerland Saar” to promote internet use, especially by senior citizens, and “Media & Me” to promote young talent in the media sector.

Bauer is also chairman of the supervisory board of the Congress-Centrum Saar GmbH, operator of the two large halls in Saarbrücken, the “ Saarlandhalle ” and the “ Congresshalle ”. Since 1989 he has been President of the German Life Saving Society (DLRG) in Saarland. In 2017 Gerd Bauer was confirmed as DLRG President for another 4 years.

Bauer has been married since 1973 and has two daughters and three granddaughters.

Gerd Bauer is chairman of the CDU local association Rodenhof and has also been a member of the Saarbrücken city council since 1979. He was elected to the Saarbrücken City Council for another five years in the 2019 local elections. From 1994 to 2001 he was a member of the Saarland State Parliament .
