The Berndtmühle , formerly also Hauckmühle , is the oldest of the three remaining post mills in Oderwitz .
It was built in its current location in 1787, making it the only one of the windmills still standing today that was also built in Oderwitz. Until the end of the Second World War, the mill had six different owners, the longest it belonged to the Berndt family, hence its name.
The mill has an enclosed trestle , a special feature of the windmills in Upper Lusatia . In 1947 an electric drive was installed in order to be able to grind grain even when there was no wind .
In 1963 the mill was stopped. In 1991 the Berndtmühle, together with the Birkmühle and the Neumannmühle, was awarded the Europa Nostra Prize for outstanding achievements in the field of preserving cultural heritage. The mill can be visited.
