Berndt Barth (* 1941 ) is a German sports scientist , university professor and author of sports textbooks.

Life

Barth operated modern pentathlon for SC DHfK Leipzig from 1958 to 1965 , in 1963 he was fourth in the world championship with the team of the German Democratic Republic . In the junior division, he won the GDR championship several times in individual and team competitions as well as in the adult division with the SC DHfK team. After this sport was no longer subsidized by the state in the GDR, Barth turned to fencing.

In 1978 his habilitation was accepted, the title of his work was “Outline of a theory and methodology of the strategy and tactics of competition in fencing”.

From 1984 he held a professorship for training science for martial arts at the German University for Physical Culture (DHfK) in Leipzig and was head of the martial arts department; he remained in office until the university was closed after the fall of the Berlin Wall. At the DHfK, he dealt with the subjects of "follow-up training in combat sports", fencing training, "possibilities for a methodology for strategic and tactical training in the training process", the "level of training for independent action control in young athletes in training" and the theory of strategy and Tactics. From spring 1990 Barth was Vice-Rector at DHfK. With the liquidation of the university from the end of 1990, his "personal scientific biography was 'wound up'", wrote Barth later, in retrospect he assessed "this 'accident' as a lucky fortune".

From 1990 to 2004 Barth was head of the teaching and training science committee at the German Fencing Association and from 1993 to 2002 Secretary General of the association. From 1991 to 1992 he was the first editor-in-chief of the Leipzig Sports Science Articles after the magazine was founded in 1991.

During his teaching, he was a lecturer at the trainer academy of the German Olympic Sports Confederation in Cologne and at the University of Applied Sciences for Sport and Management Potsdam as a visiting professor for strategy and tactics in competitive sports . In addition to teaching at the trainer academy, Barth also became a member of the board of the trainer academy association.

Barth published several sports textbooks, including as head of the collective of authors "Fechten: a textbook for basic training in foil, saber and epee fencing" in 1975, "For the task-oriented use of training exercises in fencing (exercise collection)" in 1981, "Fechttraining" in 2000, 2002 together with Katrin Barth “I train fencing”, “Soccer.
