Berndt from Egidy

Berndt von Egidy (born July 19, 1938 in Dresden ) is a German librarian . From 1991 to 2003 he was director of the University Library of Tübingen .

Live and act

After graduating from high school in Bonn (1959), Berndt von Egidy studied history and English at the universities of Bonn , Göttingen and Exeter . In 1966 he passed the state examination. The doctorate took place in 1970 at the University of Bonn. From 1969 to 1971 he trained for the higher library service at the Heidelberg University Library and the library school in Frankfurt / M. After a six-month stay at the State Library in Pretoria (South Africa), he first worked at the Heidelberg University Library and in 1973 moved to the library of the University of Essen . There he headed the department “Coordination of the specialist library and the inventory structure”, since 1977 the department “Specialized libraries and use”. In 1978 he became deputy director of the Tübingen University Library , which he then headed from 1991 to 2003 as chief library director.

From 1995 to 1997 Egidy was chairman of the Association of German Librarians (VDB). As an advisor to UNESCO, he was involved in the establishment and organization of the Bibliotheca Alexandrina (Egypt) in 2000 and 2001 .

An important focus of his Tübingen professional years was the planning and organization of the extension of the Tübingen University Library ("Ammerbau"), which was available in 2002; this also involved the dissolution of an alternative magazine that had existed since 1981.
