Antonius lamentations

Antonius Jammers (born February 2, 1937 in Radebeul ) is a German lawyer and librarian . After studying and doing his doctorate, he worked first in Heidelberg and Bonn and from 1971 as a library officer in the Ministry of Science and Research of North Rhine-Westphalia. From 1995 to 2002 he was Director General of the Berlin State Library .

Life

Jammers is the son of the musicologist and librarian Ewald Jammers .

After studying and doing his doctorate (subject: the Heidelberg Faculty of Law in the nineteenth century as a verdict college), he initially worked in Heidelberg and Bonn.

On March 1, 1971, he took over the library department newly established in the Ministry of Science in North Rhine-Westphalia and headed it until 1995. As a library officer and as chairman of the planning group for librarianship in the higher education sector of North Rhine-Westphalia at the Minister for Science and Research of the State of North Rhine-Westphalia ', he was one of the initiators and promoters of the university libraries in Duisburg, Essen, Paderborn, Siegen and Wuppertal - the current university libraries of Duisburg-Essen , Paderborn , Siegen and Wuppertal - as well as the regional library network in North Rhine-Westphalia -Westphalia.

From 1995 to 2002 he was Director General of the Berlin State Library . In 2006 he received the Rahel Varnhagen von Ense Medal , an award from the State of Berlin, for his services .
