Barbara Schneider-Kempf

Barbara Schneider-Kempf (born April 15, 1954 in Trier ) is a German academic librarian and has been the General Director of the Berlin State Library since 2004 .

Life

The daughter of an architect began in 1973 after graduating from the Trier Ursulinengymnasium with the study of architecture , first in Mainz , then at the University of Hannover and at the RWTH Aachen . After graduating in 1981 and an eight-month study visit to the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA), she began her legal clerkship at the University of Kaiserslautern in 1982 for senior library service at academic libraries. After her legal clerkship, she was a specialist in architecture and civil engineering at the library of the TU Hanover from 1984 to 1988, changed as head of department to the University Library in Duisburg , from where she moved to the newly founded University Library in Potsdam in 1992 .

From there it went to the Berlin State Library in April 2002. Here she first took on the role of permanent representative of the General Director under the then General Director Graham Jefcoate , after his retirement from the service of the Prussian Cultural Heritage Foundation in April 2003, she took over the provisional management of the library. Since January 1, 2004 she has been the general director of the Berlin State Library - Prussian Cultural Heritage.

Act

She has held a number of functions in national and international libraries: from 1991 to 1996 she was chair of the building commission of the German Library Institute , from 1997 to 2001 a member of the IFLA Committee for Library Buildings and Equipment ( Standing Committee for Library Buildings and Equipment ), took over the chairmanship of the library committee of the German Research Foundation from 2000 to 2002 , since 2003 member of the Standing Committee “Management and Marketing” of the International Federation of Library Associations (IFLA) ; from 2006 to 2010 she was the spokesperson for the Alliance of Written Cultural Assets , and has been the deputy spokesperson there ever since; since 2004 member of the AG Collection of German Prints; since 2006 member of the advisory board of the FrauenMediaTurm in Cologne, member of the advisory board for information and library of the executive committee of the Goethe-Institut , member of the German national committee of the IFLA, assessor of the examination board at the institute for library and information science of the Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin since 2007 Deputy Chairwoman of the steering committee of the Competence Network for Libraries (KNB) , Chairwoman of the Advisory Board of the German National Library in Frankfurt am Main / Leipzig (previously member of the Advisory Board since 2002); 2007–2009 Deputy Chairwoman and 2010–2012 Chairwoman of the Working Group of Special Collection Area Libraries of the Universal Libraries Section of the German Library Association , since 2010 President of the Brandenburg Bach Society, member of the science, research and documentation competence team of the Garrison Church Potsdam Foundation; since 2011 member of the advisory board of the board of the Mendelssohn Society
