Rahel Varnhagen von Ense Medal

The Rahel Varnhagen von Ense Medal is a literary award from the city of Berlin .

The undoped medal has been awarded irregularly since 1993 by the Senate Department for Science, Research and Culture and the Prussian Sea Handling Foundation to authors and translators and to personalities who have made a contribution to literary life in Berlin. The donor is the State of Berlin . It is not possible to apply. The prize is presented by a representative of the foundation together with a certificate.

The medal was designed by Marek Lipowski and is intended to commemorate the Berlin writer and salonière Rahel Varnhagen von Ense (1771–1833).
