Aldona Maria Gustas (born March 2, 1932 in Karzewischken , district Šilutė , Lithuania ) is a German writer , poet and painter of Lithuanian origin.

Life

Aldona Gustas grew up in Lithuania and moved to Germany in 1941, where she first lived in Rostock and from 1945 in what was then West Berlin . Since 1957 she has been working there as an author, since 1970 also as a visual artist, who was taught graphics and painting by Horst Strempel and Matthias Koeppel . In 1972 she founded the Berlin painter-poets together with Wolfdietrich Schnurre , Günter Grass , Kurt Mühlenhaupt and Günter Bruno Fuchs . For this artists' association she organized exhibitions at home and abroad and published catalogs. She lives and works in Berlin even after the fall of the Wall .

She was married to the writer Georg Holmsten (1913-2010).

Aldona Gustas debuted in 1962 with the poetry collection "Night streets" in the Eremitenpresse of Victor Otto Stomps . Hans Sünderhauf illustrated the volume with his woodcuts. Since then, the majority of her numerous volumes of poetry have been published by Eremitenpresse and Corvinus Presse , many of them with her own drawings and graphics. Aldona Gustas is represented with poems in numerous anthologies and literary magazines. Her texts have been translated into Lithuanian , Italian , Spanish , French , Russian , Polish and American English . She is a member of the Varnhagen Society , the Society for Contemporary Poetry and the Association of German writers (VS) in ver.di .
