Bernhard Dohm

Bernhard Dohm (born May 1, 1905 in Wiesbaden , † July 22, 1986 in Berlin ) was a German KPD and SED functionary and director of the Marx-Engels-Lenin Institute at the Central Committee of the SED .

Life

Dohm, the son of a senior postal assistant, learned the trade of shipbuilder at the Vulkan shipyard in Hamburg from 1919 to 1923 . He then worked in this profession until 1929. In 1927 he joined the KJVD and in 1930 the KPD . In 1929/30 Dohm was unemployed.

In 1930 Dohm went to Moscow , where he worked from 1930 to 1933 at the Children's Office of the Communist Youth International (KJI). He then worked from 1933 to April 1935 at the Communist University of the National Minorities of the West and then again until 1943 for the KJI. At the beginning of 1941 he was registered by the Gestapo on the special wanted list "USSR".

In October 1941 he was evacuated to Ufa , where he completed a correspondence course in history at the Moscow Institute for Literature, Philosophy and History until 1942, graduating as a historian. In 1942 he became editor of the station for the German youth "Sturmadler", from 1943 employee of the German national broadcaster . At the same time he was a member of a working group of the KPD leadership on youth issues. In 1944/1945 he worked on the 1st Ukrainian Front as a teacher in the front school for prisoners of war ( Antifa school ).

In 1945 he returned to Germany. He was a delegate of the Unification Party Congress in 1946 and the III. Party congress of the SED. Initially, he was a speaker in 1949/1950 as head of the party training department of the KPD district leadership and the SED regional association of Saxony of the SED. From 1950 to 1953 he was director of the Marx-Engels-Lenin Institute at the Central Committee of the SED , then a research assistant in the Marx-Engels department there. After a six-month stay in Moscow, he became secretary of the basic organizational management of the SED in the institute in 1960.

Dohm led the work on volumes 11 and 20 of the Marx-Engels-Werke (MEW) and was involved in volumes 27, 28 and 29 of the MEW. He also edited the single edition of the theories on added value (MEW 26). He was involved in the preparation of the Marx-Engels Complete Edition (MEGA) and edited the Kreuznach excerpts from Karl Marx.

Dohm was awarded the Honor Clasp for the Patriotic Order of Merit and the Karl Marx Order .
