Bernhard Donner

Bernhard Donner (born November 30, 1808 in Altona , † November 27, 1865 in Altona-Neumühlen ) was a Hamburg merchant and banker.

Life

He came from a merchant family in Altona and was the son of Conrad Hinrich Donner (1774–1854), owner of the company of the same name and later a bank, and Elisabeth Willink (1784–1826).

Donner was the owner of the company and banking house " Conrad Hinrich Donner " founded by his father , which his son moved from Altona to Hamburg. He also inherited his father's land holdings, the aristocratic estates of Bredeneek and Rethwisch in Holstein, and bought the Bockhorn estate himself and built the Donnerschloss in Neumühlen in what would later be Donners Park .

Donner married on September 13, 1838 in Hamburg Helene Schröder (1819–1909), the daughter of Johann Heinrich Schröder (1784–1883), merchant and banker in Hamburg and London , who was elevated to the Prussian baron status in 1868 , and Henriette von Schwartz (1798 -1889). The couple had four daughters and four sons, including Conrad Hinrich Donner (banker, 1844) .
