Bernhard Fisch

Bernhard Fisch (born August 22, 1926 in Willenberg , East Prussia ) is a German author. Since 1997 he has published on East Prussia, the expulsion and in particular on the Nemmersdorf massacre .

Life

Fisch attended elementary school in his place of birth and then the secondary school in the district town of Ortelsburg . During the Second World War he was drafted into military service in the Wehrmacht . He was involved in fighting in East Prussia and Upper Bavaria and stayed in a hospital. He was taken prisoner of war, which had lifelong after-effects.

In 1945 the family had to flee their hometown. She started a new beginning in Thuringia . From 1945 he went to school again, did his Abitur and was a teacher at an extended secondary school in Suhl for four years . He has lived in Stadtroda since 1958 . He studied at the teacher training institute and the college of education (distance learning) and was then able to do an external doctorate.

In the mid-1970s he began self-study and research into East Prussian history, during the course of which he was secretly flown from Kaunas (Lithuania) to Kaliningrad and then arrested by the Soviet militia, as he did in 2004 at a meeting of the Thuringian rose Luxembourg Foundation "Flight, Expulsion and Remembering" announced. Among other things, during this time he was a ten-month intern (regional studies, language skills) at Lomonossow University in Moscow . He began working life with casual work, which was followed by a full-time job with the FDJ , from which he was dismissed for "violating the personality cult ". After studying Slavic studies , he worked as a Russian teacher or lecturer, initially at general schools, and most recently at an agricultural engineering school. There he also taught German for foreigners. In between, he worked for six years as a research assistant for teacher training in the Gera district. He edited a publication on the methodology of foreign language teaching.

In the course of the political change and peaceful revolution in 1989/1990, Fisch founded the "Association of Resettlers of the GDR " together with like-minded people , but was unable to enforce his views and demands at the Association of Expellees .

In 1990 he took early retirement and retired. He wrote publications on East Prussian history and issues related to displaced persons . Fisch also examined the role of Josef Stalin in the drawing of the Oder-Neisse border , and is particularly known for his publications on the subject of the “ Nemmersdorf Massacre ”.

Fisch has been married since 1950 and has a daughter and two grandchildren.
