Bernhard Geyer

Bernhard Geyer (born February 3, 1880 in Alme near Brilon ; † April 4, 1974 in Bonn ) was a Catholic priest , professor and theologian .

Life

He completed philosophical and theological studies in Münster . After being ordained a priest in Cologne in 1904 , he worked as a chaplain , religion teacher and rector at the hospital from 1904 to 1909 . After receiving his doctorate in Münster in 1908, he was a senior teacher at the municipal high school in Bonn from 1910 to 1921 . After his habilitation in 1914, he became a private lecturer at the Catholic-Theological Faculty in Bonn. In 1921 he became a full professor of dogmatics in Breslau . In 1927 he returned to Bonn as a full professor at the newly founded chair for dogmatics and the history of dogma. From 1931 he was head of the Albertus Magnus Institute and from 1951 editor of the critical Albertus Magnus edition (Editio Coloniensis). The philosopher Alois Dempf wrote in 1955: "With the appearance of the Albertus edition in Cologne, one can no longer hide the fact that Bernhard Geyer has long been the leading head of German scholastic research."
