Bernhard Gill
Bernhard Gill (* 1958 in Saarbrücken ) is a German sociologist . His area of expertise lies in the area of environmental , economic and technological sociology . After studying political science in Berlin and receiving a doctorate on the emerging genetic engineering in 1990, he initially conducted research at the University of Erlangen before moving to the Institute for Sociology at the University of Munich in 1996 . He has been an adjunct professor there since 2008 . His research focuses on biotechnology , the energy transition and seed markets .
Life
Bernhard Gill was born in Saarbrücken in 1958 . In 1977 he made his at the local Ludwigsgymnasium High School and then served his community service at a local hospital from. In 1978 he went to West Berlin and began studying political science at the Otto Suhr Institute of the Free University of Berlin . After graduating in 1983, he began studying for a doctorate in 1984. In his dissertation genetic engineering without politics , he devoted himself to genetic engineering and its institutional and legal framework in the Federal Republic of Germany. At the same time he was active in various NGOs , including the Gen-ethical Network (GeN). After completing his doctorate, Gill initially worked as a freelance consultant for the Science Center Berlin and the Öko-Institut in Freiburg . In 1993 he went back to university research and took over the management of a research project on risk control in research organizations at the Interdisciplinary Institute for the Theory of Science and the History of Science (IIWW) at the University of Erlangen , which he led until 1996. In 1997 he accepted a position as an academic advisor at the University of Munich , where he worked at the Ulrich Becks chair . There he completed his habilitation in 2001 with the work Streitfall Natur in the subject sociology . The subject of the work was political disputes about scientific knowledge and technical innovations as well as the underlying, diverging world views of the conflicting parties. Since 2008, Gill has held an adjunct professorship at the Institute for Sociology at LMU, where he leads research projects on the energy transition and seed markets.
