Bernhard Grill

Bernhard Grill (born January 5, 1961 in Schwabach ) was involved in the development of the MP3 format and the process for audio data compression and is one of his fathers alongside Harald Popp and Karlheinz Brandenburg . MP3 was developed at the Friedrich-Alexander University Erlangen-Nuremberg and at the Fraunhofer Institute for Integrated Circuits (IIS) in Erlangen .

biography

In 1980 he graduated from the Adam-Kraft-Gymnasium in Schwabach, after which he did his military service until 1981.

From 1981 to 1987 he studied electrical engineering at the Friedrich-Alexander-Universität Erlangen-Nürnberg (diploma 1987).

Grill worked from 1988 to 1995 on the development and implementation of audio coding processes at the Fraunhofer Institute for Integrated Circuits (IIS-A) in Erlangen. He then worked from 1995 to 1998 at the chair for technical electronics at the Friedrich-Alexander University Erlangen-Nuremberg. In 1999 he took over the leadership of the audio research group at the Fraunhofer Institute for Integrated Circuits (IIS-A) in Erlangen. From 2000 he headed the audio / multimedia department at the Fraunhofer Institute for Integrated Circuits (IIS) Erlangen. Bernhard Grill has been the deputy director of the institute and head of the audio & multimedia division at IIS since 2011.
