Bernhard Heisterbergk

Bernhard Wilhelm August Julius Adolf Heisterbergk (born March 15, 1841 in Zwickau , † September 16, 1898 in Rome ) was a German ancient historian and classical philologist .

Heisterbergk attended grammar school in Freiberg from 1854 to 1860 . From 1860 to 1863 he studied at the University of Leipzig , a. a. with Anton Westermann , Reinhold Klotz , Emil Müller and Heinrich Wuttke . In 1863 he passed the state examination and was awarded a Dr. phil. PhD. From 1863 to 1877 he worked as a political journalist and pursued historical studies as a private scholar; from 1878 he lived permanently in Rome.

Heisterbergk's works are characterized by a strict criticism of myths. As a private researcher, he worked on Italy and the Roman Empire.
