Bernhard Latomus

Bernhard Latomus , aka: Steinmetz (* around 1560 in Wismar ; † August 1613 in Parchim ) was a German educator and historian.

Life

Latomus was a son of the Wismar pastor Heinrich Latomus. On March 14, 1594 he received his master's degree from the Philosophical Faculty of Rostock University . He was first vice rector, then rector of the scholarly school in Neubrandenburg , interrupted by a time as rector in Flensburg from 1600 to 1604, and after March 22, 1613 rector of the Parchim city school. Latomus is known as an early Mecklenburg historian . Latomus' importance is based on the attempt to write history from documents, but he knows nothing of historical criticism.
