Bernhard Milt

Bernhard Milt (born November 3, 1896 in Glarus ; † March 18, 1956 in Zurich ) was a Swiss internist , medical historian and university professor .

Life

Milt was the son of pastor Bernhard Milt (1860-1935), his mother was Clara Milt, née Spoerry (1869-1943). He graduated from the Realgymnasium in St. Gallen and studied medicine at the University of Zurich . In 1922 he received his doctorate with the dissertation Influence of sterilization by partial tube resection on menstruation and sexual life . Milt worked as an internist in Zurich. In 1937 he married Anna Huber (1898–1974).

He completed his habilitation in 1948 with the font Franz Anton Mesmer and his relations with Switzerland . In 1951 Milt became associate professor for the history of medicine and first director of the Medical History Institute at the University of Zurich, which was founded in the same year. In 1988 it was renamed the "Medical History Institute and Museum". Milt took over the chair for medical history as an associate professor . After his death, Erwin Heinz Ackerknecht was appointed.
