Bernhard Rühling

Bernhard Rühling (* 14. February 1969 in Stuttgart ) is a former German lightweight - rowers .

Athletic career

In 1991 Bernhard Rühling won the silver medal in the lightweight double scull at the Match des Seniors , a forerunner of the U23 world championships . In 1992, he met with Stephen Fahrig , Klaus Götte and René Hoehn in lightweight sculls on. At the World Championships in Montreal , the Germans took third place behind the Italians and the Swedes. In the following year the German four consisted of Klaus Götte, Frank Günder , Andreas Lutz and Bernhard Rühling. At the World Championships in Račice u Štětí, the Austrians won in front of the boats from Germany and Italy, which also won the silver medal. After finishing fourth at the 1994 World Championships, Frank Günder, Andreas Lutz, Bernhard Rühling and Jens Weckbach rowed to second place behind the Austrians and ahead of the Italians at the 1995 World Championships in Tampere .

From 1997 Bernhard Rühling competed internationally with Ingo Euler in the lightweight double scull. At the 1997 World Championships , the two won the bronze medal behind the Poles and the Italians. In 1998 in Cologne , fourth place followed, 0.35 seconds behind the third-placed Swiss. At the 1999 World Championships in St. Catharines, the Italians won ahead of the Australians, followed by Euler and Rühling who won the bronze medal. At the end of his international career, Rühling and Ingo Euler took fourth place at the 2000 Olympic Games in Sydney.

The 1.81 m tall Bernhard Rühling initially rowed for the Stuttgart RG from 1899 until 1995 . In 1996, the business graduate switched to the Mainz rowing club from 1878 . Rühling won five German championship titles in the lightweight double scull: 1995 with Frank Günder and from 1997 to 2000 with Ingo Euler.
