Bernhard Raupach (1741 by Christian Fritzsch )

Bernhard Raupach (born April 20, 1682 in Tondern ; † June 21, 1745 in Hamburg ) was a German Lutheran clergyman and church historian. He is considered the most important historian of Protestantism in Austria.

Life

Raupach was the son of an organist. From 1701 he studied theology at the University of Rostock . He then worked as court master for noble families and from 1710 lectured at the University of Kiel . After a trip to Copenhagen in 1711 he became a preacher at St. Thomas in Damshagen in Mecklenburg in 1717 . The University of Tübingen did his doctorate in absentia; however, he did not make use of his doctorate. In 1724 he became a deacon at the main church St. Nikolai in Hamburg and held the position until his death. Its lasting significance lies in the comprehensive treatment of the Protestant church history of Austria .

One of his brothers, Christoph Raupach , was an organist in Stralsund . His nephews were Hermann Friedrich Raupach (1728–1778) and Gerhard Christoph Raupach (1708–1759).
