Bernhard Schmitz

Bernhard Schmitz (born April 3, 1819 in Hanover , † April 14, 1881 in Sanzkow ; full name: Bernhard Maria Schmitz ) was a German Romance and Anglicist .

life and work

The son of a teacher studied in Berlin and Paris , did his doctorate and was initially a teacher at a Berlin secondary school for girls . From 1850 he was a teacher at the grammar school in Greifswald. In 1852 he was employed at the University of Greifswald as a lecturer for newer languages ​​(English and French). From 1866 until his death in 1881 he was associate professor for modern languages ​​(successor: Hermann Varnhagen , qualified as a professor at Schmitz, appointed to Erlangen in 1881).

Schmitz died with relatives on the Sanzkow estate near Demmin and was buried there too.
