Bernhard Spalt

Bernhard Spalt , also Bernd Spalt , (* 1968 ) is an Austrian bank manager. From 2016 to 2018 he was CEO of ERSTE Foundation . Since January 1, 2020, he has been CEO of Erste Group , and he was Deputy CEO from July 2019.

Life

Bernhard Spalt was born as the son of Armin Spalt, who was ÖVP mayor of Nüziders in Vorarlberg from 1977 to 1997 . After graduating from high school , he began studying law , which he completed in 1992 at the University of Vienna as a Mag. Iur. graduated with a specialization in European law .

He began his professional career in 1991 in the legal department of Erste Bank , where he worked as a specialist in international credit agreements and in the area of ​​credit restructuring. In 1997 he took over the board secretariat, in 1999 he moved to the Erste subsidiary in Prague , where, after taking over Česká spořitelna, he was responsible for problem loan management for non-performing loans until 2002 .

In 2002, he returned as head of strategic risk management to Vienna and built the consolidated risk management of the group. From 2006 and 2012 he was Chief Risk Officer (CRO) of Erste Group . From 2012 to 2015 he was responsible for risk management on the board of Erste Bank Hungary and then in the same position at Slovenska Sporitelna . In 2017 he took over the risk management of Banca Comercială Română (BCR). From 2018 to June 2019 he was Chief Risk Officer at Erste Bank Austria and was also responsible for strategic risk management at Erste Group Bank.

From 2012 he was a member of the board of the ERSTE Foundation and from 2016 chairman of the board. At the turn of the year 2018/19, Mario Catasta succeeded him in this role.

In September 2018, he was appointed by the Erste Group Supervisory Board as CEO of Erste Group from January 1, 2020. He succeeded Andreas Treichl in this function . From July to December 2019, Spalt was Deputy CEO of Erste Group. His contract as CEO was initially concluded until June 30, 2023. In June 2020, Spalt was elected as the successor to Andreas Treichl as the chairman of the federal division at the division conference of the bank and insurance division of the Austrian Chamber of Commerce .

Spalt is married and has one daughter.
