Andreas Treichl (born June 16, 1952 in Vienna ) is an Austrian bank manager from the Treichl family .

Life

Andreas Treichl is a son of the banker Heinrich Treichl (1913–2014) and his wife Helga Treichl (1920–1995). Treichl graduated from the Vienna Schottengymnasium . After studying economics at the University of Vienna , he worked from 1977 to 1983 in various European and American branches of the Chase Manhattan Bank . From 1983 to 1986 he was division manager at Erste Österreich Spar-Casse. From 1986 to 1993 he was CEO of Chase Manhattan Bank Austria and from 1993 to 1994 CEO of Crédit Lyonnais Austria. From 1994 to 1997 he was director of the board of Erste Österreich Spar-Casse. He has been General Manager of Erste Bank since 1997 and CEO of Erste Group since 2008 . Under his leadership, the savings bank, which had previously operated locally, was transformed into a leading Central European private and corporate bank and, after Bank Austria was sold, into the largest Austrian bank. The largest shareholder in Erste Group is the ERSTE Foundation , which Treichl led as CEO until 2012. Its activities, which focus on the Central and Eastern Europe region in which Erste Group operates, include programs in the areas of social integration, culture and Europe. In addition, Treichl came up with the idea for the Second Wiener Vereins-Sparcasse project (in short: The Second Sparkasse ) and was significantly involved in its implementation.

In September 2018, the Supervisory Board of Erste Group appointed Bernhard Spalt as CEO of Erste Group from January 1, 2020.

From 1991 to 1997 he was a financial officer on the federal executive committee of the Austrian People's Party ( ÖVP ).

Treichl is (as of 2010) a member of the Board of Directors of the International Monetary Conference (IMC), the Institute of International Finance (IIF) and a member of the Trilateral Commission European Region . In June 2010 Treichl was a guest at the 58th Bilderberg Conference in Sitges .

In November 2019, Treichl was elected chairman of the ERSTE Foundation's supervisory board; these belong to eleven percent of Erste shares.

On May 14, 2020, Treichl was elected to succeed Franz Fischler as President of the European Forum Alpbach from 2021.

Treichl is married to Desirée Treichl-Stürgkh and has three sons.
