Heinrich Treichl

Heinrich Treichl (born July 31, 1913 in Vienna ; † November 2, 2014 there ) was an Austrian banker and belonged to the Treichl family .

Life

On his father's side, Heinrich Treichl came from Leogang in Salzburg from rural circles. His parents were Alfred Treichl (1879–1945) and Dorothea Treichl (1891–1976), born Baroness von Ferstel, granddaughter of the architect of the Vienna Votive Church , Heinrich von Ferstel .

After attending the Schottengymnasium in Vienna , graduating from high school in Frankfurt and completing his law studies at the University of Vienna , Treichl was a foreign exchange dealer at the headquarters of the Parisian Banque des Pays de l'Europe (1936), and in 1937 Treichl joined the Merkur Bank Vienna a. During World War II, Treichl deserted in Paris and was ultimately taken prisoner by the Americans. He lost his brother Wolfgang , who had joined the resistance, in the war.

After ten years at the Ullstein publishing house , he worked for the Austrian industrial and mining management company from 1956 . From 1958 Treichl was with Creditanstalt-Bankverein AG, from 1962 as a board member and from 1970 to 1981 as director general.

From 1974 to 1999 Treichl was President of the Austrian Red Cross . The Heinrich Treichl Prize has also been awarded since 1993 for special achievements related to the Red Cross .

Heinrich Treichl was married to Helga Treichl (1920–1995) and was the father of Andreas Treichl , General Director of Erste Bank , and the investor Michael Treichl. Helga Treichl's mother was Hilde Ullstein, the granddaughter of the founder of the Ullstein publishing house, Leopold Ullstein . Like Heinrich Treichl, his wife was very committed to the Red Cross and other social institutions. So she headed the Austrian Multiple Sclerosis Society for many years . She was also a prolific translator of French literature, e.g. B. by Françoise Sagan , and was one of the founding members of the Austrian IG Translators . Helga Treichl died in 1995. In her honor the Red Cross established the "Helga Treichl Hospice" in Salzburg , which has been run by the Brothers of Mercy since 2014.
