Bernhard Julius Wachowsky (born August 1, 1892 in Münster ; † June 19, 1977 in Bonn ) was a Catholic prelate in the position of pastor of the Diplomatic Corps in Bonn as well as a historian , spiritual writer with a focus on dogmatics / fundamental theology , author of the pastoral newspaper , columnist of the Church newspaper ( Archdiocese of Cologne ) and spokesman for the ARD series Das Wort zum Sonntag .

Life

Wachowsky was ordained a priest in 1916 . In the years 1916–1938 he held various positions until he worked from 1938 to 1955 as a pastor in the Bonn parish of St. Marien. 1955–1956 he was head of the pastoral care department in the Vicariate General of the Archdiocese of Cologne , from 1955 to 1962 he was pastor for foreign students at the University of Bonn , and in 1958 at the latest for the Diplomatic Corps in Bonn. In 1962 he was appointed archbishop council and prelate .

Personal

During the Second World War, Wachowsky kept in close contact with his sister Maria Aurelia in Poland and corresponded with the Archbishop and Vicar General of Cologne for the purpose of restoring peace. This earned him several summons to the Gestapo and judicial authorities during the Nazi era , but without serious consequences. Nevertheless, his involvement in post-war Germany helped him to gain increased credibility and friendships such as the one with Federal President Heinrich Lübke and his wife. Although later attacked by his political opponents as a Nazi collaborator , Lübke, captain of the reserve, Nazi surveyor and site manager, was held as a political prisoner in a prison near Cologne for over 20 months. There he came into contact with Wachowsky, who helped out in the pastoral care of the complex.

As a pastor and friend, Prelate Wachowsky had a significant influence on the German writer Henriette Brey , as she reports in her autobiography.
