Bernhard Walthard

Bernhard Walthard (born May 29, 1897 in Bern ; † May 12, 1992 ) was a Swiss pathologist .

Life

Walthard, son of the gynecologist Max Walthard , studied in Geneva , Zurich , Hamburg and Berlin . In 1922 he received his doctorate at the University of Bern with the text functional tests of the liver in Graviditate sub partu, in the puerperium and in eclampsia . From 1928 he worked as a prosector . In 1932 he became a private lecturer , an associate professor in 1940 and a full professor in 1946 in Bern. As the successor of Carl Wegelin, he headed the Pathological University Institute in Bern from 1946 to 1963. His scientific interests included malignancies and the metabolism of the thyroid gland .
