Bernhard von Brauchitsch

Bernhard Eduard Adolf von Brauchitsch (born October 12, 1833 in Berlin , † May 7, 1910 in Naumburg (Saale) ) was a Prussian cavalry general and director of the War Academy from 1890 to 1896 .

Life

origin

Bernhard came from the Silesian noble family von Brauchitsch . He was the son of Adolf von Brauchitsch (1800–1876) and his wife Emilie Helene, born von Braunschweig (1809–1866).

Military career

After completing his school education, Bernhard began studying law and camera sciences at the universities of Bonn, Heidelberg, Halle and Berlin. After successfully completing his studies, he worked as an auscultator from 1855 and as a trainee lawyer from 1857. In 1859 he entered the military. Bernhard took part in the German War of 1866 and was transferred to the War Ministry in 1867 . After winning the war against France, he worked from 1871 as a general staff officer in the Generalgouvernement of Lorraine . Further posts followed up to his last military assignment as director of the War Academy from September 20, 1890 to April 18, 1896.

His grave is in the Berlin Invalidenfriedhof .

Brauchitsch married Charlotte von Gordon (1844–1906) on March 12, 1864. They had seven children together:
