Adolf Wilhelm Bernhard von Brauchitsch (born November 7, 1876 in Berlin , † January 21, 1935 in Chemnitz ) was a German major general in the Reichswehr .

Life

family

Adolf came from the Silesian noble family von Brauchitsch . He was the fifth of seven children of the future general of the cavalry and director of the military academy Bernhard von Brauchitsch (1833-1910) and his wife Charlotte, born von Gordon (1844-1906). His younger brother was the future General Field Marshal Walther von Brauchitsch .

Military career

Brauchitsch came on 22 March 1895 from the cadet corps coming as second lieutenant in the 2nd Guards Regiment walk the Prussian Army in Berlin one. In 1899 he was transferred to the 8th Thuringian Infantry Regiment No. 153 in Altenburg , where he was initially deployed in the 2nd Company. There Brauchitsch was promoted to first lieutenant on January 27, 1905 and was employed as a regimental adjutant from September 1906. From September 1908 to November 1910, Brauchitsch, promoted to captain on March 22, 1910, acted as wing adjutant to the Duke of Saxony-Altenburg Ernst II . In mid-November 1910 he was transferred to the 17th Infantry Brigade , where he worked as an adjutant until January 1913 . At the end of January 1913 he became chief of the 7th company in the fusilier regiment "Queen Victoria of Sweden" (Pomeranian) No. 34 .

With the outbreak of World War I , Brauchitsch was assigned to the Reserve Infantry Regiment No. 20 as a company commander. He later served as a battalion leader in Reserve Infantry Regiment No. 211. There he was promoted to major on August 18, 1916 . After the war he was transferred back to the Fusilier Regiment "Queen Victoria of Sweden" (Pomeranian) No. 34 in January 1919. After its demobilization , he moved to the Reichswehr Infantry Regiment 13 in the Provisional Reichswehr . On October 1, 1920, Brauchitsch was appointed commander of the 1st Battalion of the 5th Infantry Regiment . In this function he was promoted to lieutenant colonel on May 1, 1921 . In June 1923 Brauchitsch transferred to the Reichswehr Ministry. There he rose in November 1923 within the army command under Hans von Seeckt on the staff to head of department and was promoted to colonel on February 1, 1926 . As this he served from May 1, 1926, initially in the staff of the 12th Infantry Regiment in Halberstadt . On April 1, 1928, he became its commander. This commanded Brauchitsch until his retirement at the end of January 1929. With his departure on January 31, 1929 he was given the character of major general.

Brauchitsch died in Chemnitz at the age of 58.
