The order was initially donated in five classes

On March 18, 1858, the small cross was renamed the honor cross and a gold and silver medal of merit was added. These were canceled on February 2, 1876 and the Knight's Cross, 2nd class, was donated. Instead of the Gold Medal of Merit, the Albrecht Cross was created. In 1883 the golden breast star was introduced to the Grand Cross as a special tier above the Grand Cross. Finally, on June 11, 1890, another class was created, the Officer's Cross , which ranked between the Commander II Class and the Knight's Cross First Class.

Until the end of the monarchy on November 13, 1918, the order was awarded as follows:

  • Grand Cross
  • Commander 1st and 2nd class
  • Officer's Cross
  • Knights 1st and 2nd class
  • Albrecht's Cross

In 1860 the order was expanded to include a department for the military and from this point onwards it could be awarded with crossed swords through the Kreuzwinkel.

Order decoration

The medal is a slender, white enamelled cross with a gold border, the lower cross arm of which is longer. The cross arms are underlaid by a green enamelled oak wreath . On a white background, the medallion shows the golden bust of Albrecht the Courageous (until 1876 with a so-called baker's hat), surrounded by an enamelled blue ring with the inscription ALBERTUS ANIMOSUS . The reverse shows the Saxon coat of arms and the blue hoop in the middle . Below the golden oak wreath is the number of the foundation year 1850 .

The cross hangs on the golden royal crown for the decoration of the 1st and the complete 2nd class. The knight class, in the 2nd class of which the oak wreath was omitted and instead of gold was made of silver, has no crown. The Albrecht Cross is made of silver.

Ribbon and way of wearing

The ribbon is green with a white side stripe on both sides.

Grand cruisers carried the decoration on a sash over the right shoulder to the left hip. The Commons as a neck order and the knights decorated in the buttonhole, or on the ribbon on the left side of the chest.

Grand Cross and Commander First Class also wore an order star on their left breast. For the former it has eight rays, otherwise four. The central shield on the front resembles the large order decoration . The award increase was the award of an additional golden star for the Grand Cross class. The ribbon color of the house order of the diamond was chosen.
