Bernhard Karl Freiherr von Koehne , in Russia Бернгард (Борис) Васильевич Кёне (Berngard (or Boris) Valisil'evič Këne), (born July 4, 1817 in Berlin ; † February 17, 1886 in Würzburg ) was a German numismatist and heraldist .

After attending the Friedrich-Wilhelms Gymnasium in his hometown, Koehne studied at the universities of Berlin and Leipzig from 1837 . He received his doctorate in Berlin in 1840 and worked from 1844 to 1845 as a private lecturer in numismatics at the Berlin University, where he read medieval numismatics and heraldry. In 1841 he founded the magazine for coin, seal and heraldry and in 1843 co-founded the Numismatic Society in Berlin. In 1843 he became a corresponding member of the Society for the History and Archeology of the Baltic Provinces of Russia .

In 1845 he went to the Imperial Hermitage in Saint Petersburg , where he a. a. Was director of the numismatic department. In addition, he began a catalog of the Hermitage painting collection. In 1868 he was appointed to the Hermitage's scientific advisory board.

A large number of valuable works, particularly on ancient coinage and the German Middle Ages, were part of his work. He published his main work on the ancient numismatics of Pontus, Bosporus and the Crimea.

He also worked for the Russian heraldry and made a contribution to Russian heraldry, for which he was ennobled. In 1857 he became director of the heraldic department of the Russian Senate.
