Working as a historian

Ernst Fidicin's efforts to research the history of Berlin and the Mark Brandenburg were reflected in several important historical and literary works. During his research in 1836 in the Bremen City Library , he found the Berlin City Book of 1397, believed to have been lost since 1728 ; it appeared a year later as the first part of the historical-diplomatic contributions to the history of the city of Berlin published by Fidicin. He published the land book of Emperor Charles IV from 1375 and continued the history of the settlement in his four-volume work The Territories of the Mark Brandenburg .

In 1865 Fidicin was a founding member of the Society for the History of Berlin and a member of the board, later even honorary chairman. In doing so, he took on the role of the association's librarian and was primarily responsible for the publications of the city's medieval documents published by the association.
