Marek Sapara (born July 31, 1982 in Košice ) is a Slovak football player.
Club career
Slovakia
Marek Sapara started his career in Košice, where he attended a sports high school. In the 1999/2000 season he was able to win the national youth championship with the team from VSS Košice, whereupon the 1. FC Košice signed him . After a short loan to the third-rate club Krasna nad Hornadom, he was finally able to establish himself in Košice.
In 2001 , Sapara had to do his legally required army service in Košice. Although he was stationed in his home country, he was rarely able to participate in training and so lost his status as a regular player. After the end of nine months of military service, the sporting situation of his club had deteriorated so much that Sapara pressed for a change.
The sporting reorientation led him to MFK Ružomberok , although several other clubs from the Czech Republic and Slovakia were interested in him. At Ruzomberok he was appointed captain before the 2005/06 season and then led the team to championship and cup victory.
Norway
In August 2006, Sapara moved to Rosenborg Trondheim in Norway for a transfer fee of around 1.3 million euros , where he became an important part of midfield. The midfielder played his first game in Norway on September 10, 2006 against Sandefjord Fotball . He is considered one of the best players in the Norwegian Tippeligaen .
Turkey
In January 2010, Sapara moved to Turkey to join MKE Ankaragücü . Ankaragücü got into major financial difficulties during the 2011/12 season and was unable to pay the players' salaries for a long period of time. As a result, many players, including Sapara, had to be released under contract and could leave the club free of charge. Then Sapara moved to the traditional club Trabzonspor in September 2011 . Here he signed a three-year contract.
For the second half of the 2011/12 season he was loaned to Gaziantepspor as a partial replacement for Olcan Adın until the end of the season to the league rivals from southern Anatolia . Here Sapara convinced right away and became one of the shooting stars of the second half of the season. Gaziantepspor tried to bind Sapara and the transfer fee to itself, but Trabzonspor refused a levy. After the 2012/13 season, Sapara's contract was terminated.
In January 2014, he signed another contract with Gaziantepspor . For the new season he was hired by the second division team Ankaraspor . At the end of the first half of the season he left this club again.
National team
Before starting his senior national team career, Sapara played ten games for the Slovak U21s. He made his senior national team debut in October 2005 in the World Cup qualifying match between Slovakia and Estonia .
