Bernhart Lachaman the Younger

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Bernhart Lachaman the Younger († January 31, 1523 ) was a bell founder in Heilbronn .

Life

He was the son of the bell founder Bernhart Lachaman the Elder († 1517) from his first marriage and continued his bell foundry in Heilbronn. Just like the bells of his father, his bells were also spread far beyond Heilbronn in the Electoral Palatinate , Kurmainz , Hohenlohe , the Margraviate of Ansbach as well as in places of the Teutonic Order and in some imperial cities. Because of the internal unrest prevailing in Württemberg at that time, Bernhart d. Until 1522 no bells were delivered to the Württemberg region.

From 1504 and probably until his death he was a member of the Heilbronn council.

While he was likely to be considered for some of the bells signed by name during the lifetime of the father of the same name, the Lachaman bells dated and signed from 1518 can be assigned to him without a doubt. A total of 16 bells that were still in existence and eight that were lost are known from his production. A bell in Baumerlenbach from 1523, not signed with his first name, can already come from his younger half-brother Jerg († 1524), who continued his workshop but died the year after him. Jerg's widow probably continued to run the foundry for a short time. The last known bell from the Lachaman workshop went to Talheim in 1526.
