Bert-Jan Ruissen

HJA "Bert-Jan" Ruissen (born March 22, 1972 in Oostdijk, Reimerswaal municipality , Netherlands ) is a Dutch politician of the Staatkundig Gereformeerde Partij (SGP). He has been a member of the European Parliament since the 2019 European elections . The SGP is a member of the European Conservatives and Reformists Group .

Life

After studying agriculture at Wageningen University , Ruissen worked from March 2000 to July 2019 at the Ministry of Landbouw, Natuur en Voedselkwaliteit . During the period from March 2006 to June 2017 he was also a member of the municipal council of Krimpen aan den IJssel . In the 2019 European elections, Ruissen was the top candidate for the SGP and won a seat in the European Parliament with 44,416 votes, which corresponded to around 11.82 percent of all votes in the group of voters from ChristenUnie and SGP.

Activities as a MEP

Ruissen is a member of the Committee on Agriculture and Rural Development and the delegation to the Parliamentary Assembly of the Union for the Mediterranean. He is an alternate member of the Committee on Foreign Affairs, Human Rights, Common Security and Defense Policy , the Committee on Fisheries and the Delegation for Relations with India. He is also vice-chairman of the delegation for relations with Israel.
