Bert De Backer (born April 2, 1984 in Eeklo ) is a Belgian racing cyclist .

Career

Bert De Backer came third in the juniors' Omloop Het Nieuwsblad in 2002 . In 2007 he won the junior race Grand Prix de la ville de Geluwe . He was a stagiaire for Navigators Insurance at the end of 2007 and at Skil-Shimano at the end of 2008 . De Backer then signed his first professional contract with this team.

In the second stage of the Tour of Denmark in 2010 he was third in the stage. 2011 won the special classification of the intermediate sprint at the Three Days of De Panne . At the Giro d'Italia 2013 he made his debut on a Grand Tour and finished in 157th place. In the same year he won the Belgian one-day race Grote Prijs Jef Scherens . In the cobblestone classic Paris – Roubaix 2014 and 2015 , he finished 11th and 12th, and in 2015 he was the decisive helper of his team captain and eventual winner John Degenkolb , when he made it possible for him to counterattack with an attack 13 kilometers from the finish. At Paris-Roubaix 2016 he was 16th and 2018 21st.
