route

The race organized by Veloclub De Panne began with a stage from Middelkerke to Zottegem , where the race ended with a circuit that had to be driven twice. This section comprised a total of twelve mountain assessments and three cobblestone sections. Among other things, the Leberg , known from the Tour of Flanders, was ridden.

The following day, the longest section of the tour, at 219 kilometers, led from Oudenaarde to Koksijde . Six mountain classifications as well as a final lap to be mastered three times awaited the drivers.

On the last day there was a flat stage in De Panne in the morning , followed by the crucial individual time trial in the afternoon over almost 15 kilometers in the same city.

Race course

On the first and at the same time most difficult section of the race, after numerous unsuccessful attacks on the final laps in Zottegem, a four-man leading group around the winner of the day André Greipel and Lieuwe Westra , one of the favorites for the overall win, crossed the finish line a few meters before the approaching field.

The following day, however, Greipel in the white leader's jersey lost over five minutes in the middle part of the stage, which was provided with five slips, and had to relinquish the overall lead to Westra. In the sprint of the field, the Russian Denis Galimsjanow won ahead of the German John Degenkolb and thus laid the foundation for winning the green jersey for the best in points.

The third stage was held on the morning of the third day and took place in rainy and windy weather conditions. Half of the remaining field of drivers lost touch with the other professionals at the edge of the wind and even fell out of the waiting period with over 25 minutes behind at the end of the stage. Thus, Lieuwe Westra moved from fifth to one in the mountain classification, as the drivers ahead of him had been excluded. From the field of around fifty, the Italian Jacopo Guarnieri ( Liquigas-Cannondale ) finally won the sprint. Previously, the Belgian Bert De Backer had taken the overall lead from Westra in the only intermediate sprint of the day thanks to a two-second time bonus. In the final individual time trial, however, it was Sébastien Rosseler from Team RadioShack who gave the competition no chance and celebrated the first round trip victory of his career with a 14 second lead over Westra ( Vacansoleil-DCM ). Teammate Michał Kwiatkowski was also able to climb the podium in third place.
