Berta Pfister-Lex

Berta Pfister-Lex (born December 24, 1920 in Graz ; † December 26, 2016 in Irdning ) was an Austrian artist and restorer . Her specialties were religious reverse glass painting and the restoration and preservation of old folk art .

life and work

From 1935 to 1939 Berta Pfister-Lex studied at the Bundesgewerbeschule at Ortweinplatz in Graz with professors Hans Adametz (ceramics), Rudolf Szyskovitz (figural drawing) and from 1943 in the master class with Fritz Silberbauer.

She has been working as a painter and graphic artist in the Styrian Ennstal since 1945 and restored old folk art, panel paintings for churches and chapels, exhibits on behalf of museums, oil paintings, reverse glass, graphics, etc., initially on behalf of the art department of the Styrian state government and later as a freelance artist contributed significantly to the preservation of rural folk art and valuable old farm furniture .

Among other things, she was artistically active for the Austrian Open Air Museum under Viktor H. Pöttler in Stübing, for the Landesmuseum Joanneum in Graz and for the Styrian State Museum Schloss Trautenfels . During her artistic work, she trained young aspiring up-and-coming artists in the field of restoration. From 1978, her pictures were exhibited in solo exhibitions at home and abroad as well as in collective exhibitions with the Steiermärkischer Kunstverein-Werkbund in the Künstlerhaus Graz .
