Berthe Widmer (born July 17, 1924 in Lucerne ; † February 2, 2012 in Basel ; Catholic ; resident in Ruswil and Lucerne) was a Swiss historian .

life and work

Berthe Widmer, daughter of a doctor, studied history, German and Latin philology at the Universities of Geneva and Basel . In 1953 she was named Dr. phil. PhD , with a dissertation on Hildegard von Bingen . From 1955 she worked on the Middle Latin Dictionary in Munich . In 1961 she qualified as a professor at the University of Basel, where she received a teaching position in 1963 and from 1965 to 1984 she was an associate professor for medieval cultural history and Middle Latin philology . Her publications deal with topics in the areas of mysticism , religious customs and humanism . She found her final resting place in the Friedental cemetery .
