Berthold von Bussnang

Berthold von Bussnang (first mentioned in 1159; † May 22, 1183 in Konstanz ) was Bishop of Konstanz from 1174 to 1183 .

Berthold came from the Thurgau Barons von Bussnang . His year of birth is unknown. In 1159 he was mentioned for the first time in a document from Hermann von Arbon . Before he ascended the bishop's chair, he belonged to the Konstanz cathedral chapter and from 1169/1170 held the office of provost . He has been bishop of Constance since April 9, 1175, but held his office only as an elect in the first four years and was not ordained bishop until the second half of 1179.

He took part in the 3rd Lateran Council in 1179 and received Emperor Friedrich I in Constance in 1179 and 1181.

During his reign as bishop, Berthold devoted himself mainly to judicial tasks and appeared particularly as a mediator in disputes over the ownership of churches and chapels as well as tithing .

While Berthold that of the June 1179 Bishop Berno of Schwerin completed consecration in Salem monastery could attend only as Elect, he took after he was temporarily ordained a bishop in December of that year, the consecration of the newly built after a fire in the church of the monastery Petershausen itself in front. Bishop Berthold died on May 22, 1183 and found his final resting place in the Konstanz Minster .
