The Berufskolleg Neandertal is a school of secondary education and Vocational High School in the Center and sponsored by the district of Mettmann . The vocational college currently consists of over 2000 students, two secretaries, one secretary, two caretakers, four social workers and around 120 teachers. A wide variety of courses are offered here in the form of vocational schools , technical colleges , vocational schools and technical schools. Various courses in the field of continuing education are also increasingly being set up.

The principal is Petra Bertelsmeier; Ulrich Dey is his deputy.

From 2009 the school took part in the project “Developing a healthy school together” for three years. The vocational college was supported by the Leuphana University of Lüneburg and the DAK. The development work towards a “healthy school” continues to be a core component. Since 2009 there has been the “all-day vocational school in the healthy school - GigS” which includes an extended school day with full board and relaxation and concentration breaks for some occupational fields within the vocational school. In 2012 and 2014, the school was awarded the “Good Healthy School” school development award from the North Rhine-Westphalia Accident Fund. The vocational college has had a cafeteria since the 2013/14 school year .

School name

The name “Berufskolleg Neandertal” results from the geographical proximity to this famous valley . Until November 2004 the school was called “Vocational College Mettmann”. The renaming took place as part of the 125th school anniversary and the inauguration of the optically dominating extension building.
